It's not often that offshore online sportsbooks — where tens of billions of dollars are wagered by Americans every year — get much in the way of bad press. In fact, they're often really good at getting good press mentions in the US.
That's why it captivated the sports betting world and some of the mainstream media when Barstool Sports — and its leader, Dave Portnoy — suddenly took aim at one offshore book, called MyBookie.
MyBookie's most heavily-featured promo is their 100% match bonus on first-time deposits for those wanting to patronize their popular sportsbook. MyBookie will match your first deposit dollar-for-dollar up to a maximum of $1,000. New users have to deposit a minimum of $45 to trigger this bonus offer, which is only valid on your first deposit. MyBookie.net does not offer any gambling services and does not permit site members to bet on events or stake real money or any other items of value. All activities and contests offered by MyBookie.net are free of charge and no purchase is necessary to open an account. Thus, website users are not permitted to risk their own money or property on the outcome of the games. MyBookie – Legit and Honest Sportsbook? Learn More Here in this 2021 MyBookie Review! If you have been looking for a sportsbook online where you can bet on your favorite sports and enjoy top-notch customer service, MyBookie may just be the site you have been searching for. MyBookie.ag Casino – Legit or Scam? We present to you, dear reader, our MyBookie Casino Review! MyBookie casino is the casino arm of the sportsbook ads you may have heard on sports talk radio in many major US markets. As these names suggest, they also have a casino side of their site.
We won't detail the feud, but here's a pretty good summation of what happened from Portnoy (warning, not at all suitable for work):
Only idiots would gamble with @betmybookiepic.twitter.com/4QqoMnbKF5
— Dave Portnoy (@stoolpresidente) April 9, 2019
Anyway, we're not here to recount the blow by blow of the simmering feud. What we are here to tell you is what you should know about offshore sportsbooks, if you're familiar with them or not:
Offshore sportsbooks like MyBookie operate illegally
Offshore sportsbooks are not sort of illegal or kind of illegal. They are operating illegally if they are taking wagers from bettors in the US. Full stop.
MyBookie is hardly the only sportsbook site or app that does this. There are dozens, if not more, although there are a handful of truly major players offshore.
Offshore sportsbooks violate at a minimum:
- The federal Wire Act
- Likely some other federal laws
- A variety of state laws that prohibit unregulated sports betting, or just ban it altogether.
The fact that some offshore books have a license to operate in Costa Rica or some Caribbean nation is great and all, and it makes them legal in that jurisdiction. People might cite an ongoing World Trade Organization dispute between the US and Antigua, but that is not a magic elixir for legality, either.
I'll preface this next part as saying I am not a lawyer, and don't take this as legal advice. But individual bettors at offshore sportsbook don't seem to be under any kind of legal threat.
That doesn't mean it's entirely safe to do so, or that your money is under no threat if US law enforcement suddenly decided to start enforcing existing laws.
Anyway, the takeaway is that MyBookie (and other books) are illegally operating, like Portnoy says. Lots of people think, erroneously, that the US Supreme Court just legalized sports betting everywhere last year, which is not at all the case.
Legal US sportsbooks have an inherent disadvantage vs. offshore books
Other than the fact that you are trying to evade US authorities and likely have difficulties with payment processing, offshore books have a decided advantage over legal ones in the US.
First off, there aren't many of the legal variety. There are legal mobile apps only in New Jersey and Nevada. There will be later this year in Pennsylvania and West Virginiaand possibly Rhode Island.
If you're in any other state — and this is important — you're not betting on a legal app. That's one of just several advantages that offshore books have that legal books don't have to contend with. Offshore books:
- Operate in just about any state they choose to serve. Legal sportsbooks must operate only in the states in which they are authorized.
- The regulatory regime for offshore sportsbooks is basically non-existent, while legal books have to deal with more strict regulation, and different regulations in every state. This takes money and manpower to deal with.
- Offshore sportsbooks don't have to pay the same kinds of fees and taxes that regulated books do, especially a .25 percent tax on all wagers that the US government levies.
MyBookie going away doesn't solve much for legal sports betting
Portnoy's rant against an illegal bookmaker is certainly welcome news for proponents of legal betting. But let's not make it out to be more than it is, which is a pissing match between a media outlet that thrives on such things and exactly one (1) illegal sportsbook.
It does shine a light on something that doesn't get much play in the US — the fact that a sportsbook is taking wagers illegally. Far too often I see media outlets citing offshore books for quotes or odds, with no mention of their status in the US.
But Portnoy wasn't ranting against ALL illegal sports betting. Portnoy got mad at one of them on Twitter, and he is trying to shut them down.
That's great. But if MyBookie gets shut down, all of that action just moves to another offshore sportsbook. Nothing is really solved.
There are plenty of believers and supporters of the offshore books, and I don't take any issue with people who have no other options for legal betting.
But in order to have a legal sports betting market truly succeed, you can't just let these sportsbooks exist in the status quo. Normalizing them alongside the legal bookmakers just reinforces their inherent advantages, as they ride the wave of popularity and increased search traffic around sports betting.
So it starts with MyBookie. But it doesn't end there.

For those of you who weren't around to know what the online gaming industry looked like in the early 2000s, the easiest way to describe it was like being in the Wild West. I was living in Costa Rica at the time, and seeing the guys who were running the largest sportsbooks and casinos was like looking at the mob – a bunch of larger than life characters with more street acumen than business sense.
One company that realized the potential of the space was Bet on Sports, and they were the flag-bearers for the North American online gaming industry. At least they were until they started getting arrested and had their site shut down.
Why am I bringing that up? Because rising from the ashes of Bet on Sports came several new operations, one of which I am reviewing today – MyBookie.ag
About MyBookie.ag
As I mentioned, the owners of MyBooke.ag have ties to the old Bet on Sports brand. This is a good thing; even though that company did have a reputation for closing accounts of players who won too much, they were also the pioneers in many forms of the business. MyBookie.ag has been in business since 2014.
The company is based in Costa Rica, but rather than just get one of the bogus Costa Rica 'gaming' license like so many of their competitors, the company has chosen to get theirs from Curacao. IS that any better, you may ask? Well, I say marginally – at least they had to be somewhat transparent when they went through the due diligence process. I wouldn't count on the regulatory board being much help to you if you have a dispute with MyBookie.ag though.
Who Can Play at MyBookie.ag?
Well, I could list the countries that are restricted from play at this site, but it will be much easier to let you know who is allowed to play here. Without going into too many details, this site is clearly designed to be open to bettors from Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. There are a few other small countries not on the restricted list, but given this is primarily a site focused on American Sports, those countries are the primary targets.
Software Suppliers
The company has different software suppliers for different parts of their business. For their sportsbook, they use the software from Digital Gaming Solutions, a smaller Costa Rica-based company. This software runs many of the sportsbooks that are also based in Costa Rica, and also featured a very limited number of casino games to complement the sportsbook platform.
To enhance their casino offering, MyBookie.ag has selected Betsoft for digital casino games and Vivo Gaming for their Live Dealer games. Both companies offer excellent software which, most importantly, will allow players from the U.S.
The casino games are available in browser-based Instant Play format, with the games also being modified and formatted for play on mobile devices.
The Good Stuff
Multi-channel platform
Look, I will be honest here: most of the sites I review are just online casinos, so it is great to come across a site that offers more than just casino games, especially one that is U.S. facing. Once I make a deposit, I want to be able to use it for playing Blackjack and for betting on my favorite hockey team if I want, and having one central account for both is one reason I love MyBookie.ag.
Jackpots
Here's the thing about online casino progressive jackpots: many times you will see a huge number, which usually means the jackpot never hits. At MyBookie.ag, they do have a few Jackpot games with more modest totals; this shows me that they must be hitting more often, and let's be realistic here: isn't that why we play them in the first place?
The Bad Stuff
Having your account closed
So, I mentioned earlier how Bet on Sports used to close the accounts of players they deemed to be 'professionals' – basically players that won too much. That trend has continued over to MyBookie.ag; look at what is written right on their homepage:
'MyBookie.ag is a world class online sportsbook that caters specifically to recreational gamblers. We do not accept wagers from professional bettors, sharp side movers, syndicate or propositional players. MYB reserves the right to deny action or payments at any time. If any of these activities occur, then all plays will be void, and the original funds will be sent back to the player. MyBookie.ag works hard to provide our players with the largest offering of products available in the industry. It is our goal is to give our customers a safe place online to bet with the absolute best service possible.'
I am surprised the company doesn't just take the Bodog model into consideration – having two sets of lines, one for professionals and one for recreational players. At any rate, this is only going to be a problem if you start crushing the sportsbook.
Legacy payment Issues
Before Bet on Sports was shut down, they had been in some money trouble, often having players complaining to online forums. They claim to have paid all their players, and there don't seem to be any recent complaints against MyBookie.ag, but I always have my eye open for any similar behavior when there is a connection to a site with issues in the past.
Sportsbook
If you are recreational sports bettor, then MyBookie.ag is the place for you. The site has excellent navigation, so it is very simple to find the sports and events you are looking to place a bet on. They also have some featured games on their main sportsbook page – these are likely the most popular bets they offer at any given time.
Remembering that this is a brand focused on the North American betting market, it isn't shocking to see the list of sports trending towards those markets. Here is a snapshot of what you can bet on at MyBookie.ag:
- NFL
- NBA
- NHL
- Boxing
- MMA
- Soccer
- MLB
- Tennis
- Golf
- Motor Sports
- Horse Racing
- Entertainment
- NCAA Football
- International Baseball
- Wrestling
- E-Sports
It's nice to see eSports represented on this list. With the growing popularity of those events and the amount of people betting on them increasing each month, companies like MyBookie.ag have to stay relevant by offering odds on the big tournaments.

Slots
Betsoft is known for their slots games; their 3D graphics are high-quality and are usually the most popular with any casino that offers them in their lobby. Look at the titles they offer and see if there are any you recognize:

Table Games
The natural fit for sports gamblers in a casino are Table Games; these games usually involve a little strategy, so a player thinks they can change the odds in their favor with their style of play. We all know that is very unlikely to be the case, but that is just fine for the operators! At MyBookie.ag, there are a couple dozen Table Games for you to try, including several Blackjack variants (those are my favorites). Here's what you will find in their lobby:
- MYB Blackjack
- New Roulette
- Multi-Hand Blackjack
- American Blackjack
- Poker3 Heads Up Hold'em
- Craps
- Caribbean Poker
- Ride`em Poker
- European Blackjack
- American Roulette
- 21 Burn Blackjack
- Super 7 Blackjack
- Triple Edge Poker
- Pai Gow
- Pirate 21
- Red Dog
- Draw Hi-Lo
- Baccarat
- Oasis Poker
- VIP European Roulette
- VIP American Roulette
- European Roulette
- Pontoon
- Three Card Rummy
- Zoom Roulette
- Top Card Trumps
Video Poker
For me personally, when I am betting on sports, I am usually watching the games I am betting on, and to keep me distracted during breaks in play, I like to play video poker. Now here is a game that, if you find the right machine and pay table, you can actually swing the odds in your favor. I have often found myself lost in a session of video poker only to look up to locate the game I was betting on long over.
At MyBookie.ag, the list of video poker options is long, which is excellent for you. I recommend playing the Jacks or Better Single Hand version of the game; it has a very good pay table.
- Five Card Draw
- Deuces Wild
- Jacks or Better
- Joker Poker
- All American
- Bonus Poker
- Double Bonus
- Split way Royal
- Double Joker
- Bonus Deuces
- Tens or Better
- Deuces and Jokers
- Multi-hand Double Bonus
- Multi-hand Double Jackpot
- Mutli-hand Bonus Poker
- Multi-hand Joker Poker
- Multi-hand All American
- Multi-hand Jacks or Better
- Multi-hand Deuces Wild
Live Dealer Games
You don't usually find Live Dealer games available for U.S. consumption; it is a rare treat to find them available at MyBookie.ag. The difference between these games and the standard digital versions is that the gameplay is much slower as there is a dealer you can see on your screen. These dealers, in a studio in Costa Rica, give the games a much more human feel to them, mirroring what you might find in your local land-based casino. MyBookie.ag offers the following games with Live Dealers:
- Blackjack
- Baccarat
- European Roulette
- Super 6
- American Roulette
Promotions
This site is all about giving you the best promotions designed to get you gambling for real money as often as possible. I want to focus on a couple of their casino promotions for the purposes of this review.
Casino Welcome Bonus
MyBookie.ag offers different Welcome Bonuses for casino and sports players. If you are a casino player, then you can take advantage of a 100% deposit bonus up to a maximum of $300. Now, in the terms and Conditions, you will see that this is really a slots and blackjack bonus; the company writes:
'Craps, Video Poker, Baccarat, Sic Bo, Pai Gow, and Roulette are all ineligible for meeting rollover requirements.
This promotion is not valid for Live Casino play.'
That's fine for me as I am a Blackjack player; if you prefer a different Table Game, then this bonus likely doesn't do much for you.
Triple Diamond 21
Continuing on the Blackjack theme, this promotion offers a $500 bounty if you are dealt a 21 which is comprised of 3 7s of Diamonds. The only qualification is that the bet you make has to be a minimum of $10 for the hand to count. To claim your prize, you need to email the casino and let them know; they will double-check the hand and then send you your winnings!
Banking
For a sportsbook taking action from the U.S., MyBookie.ag has a good selection of payment options to choose from. Sadly, there are no e-Wallet options, but that rings true for most U.S. facing casinos these days. When you are making a withdrawal request, make sure you take into account the fees – at MyBookie.ag they are not a set rate, fluctuating based on the amount you are asking for.
Deposit Options
- Visa
- MasterCard
- ACH
- Bank Wire
- Person2Person
- Bitcoin
- Phone
Withdrawal Options
- Wire Transfer
- Bitcoin
- ACH
VIP Program
Strangely, the link to the loyalty program at MyBookie.ag was not anywhere to be found quickly on their webpage; I had to go to the sitemap to find it. I presume this is just an oversight by the company; hopefully, it will be fixed soon, but here are the details of the program:
The Loyalty Program has 3 levels to it and is definitely sports betting-focused. In fact, I don't see any way to earn Bookie Points while playing the casino games. Maybe I am missing something here? The company writes on their website that there are many ways to earn these points with the most common being betting on sports; maybe they do take casino play into consideration.
Here is how you can earn the Bookie Points in the sportsbook:
How Legit Is Mybookie
- Straight Bet – 1 point
- Parlays – 2 Points
- If Bets – 5 Points
- Reverse Bets – 5 Points
- Teaser Bets – 5 Points
So, it seems like that is how you accumulate the points, but what are the qualifications for each level? That is also hard to say. There doesn't appear to be any information on the number of points you need to qualify for each level, but here is a description of what each level receives:
MVP
Everyone starts in this level after signing up. Players in this tier will receive a Free Withdrawal every 4 months and a Birthday Special Gift. Is Mybookie Trustworthy
It certainly isn't much to work with, but at the very least they do have a program in place, and when you earn enough points you can use them to redeem for some cool stuff in their Loyalty store. From free bets to electronics, there is something for everyone in there!
Customer Service
MyBookie.ag has definitely adopted the most modern ways of communication with their players. Of course, they have a web form that you can fill out and submit, as well as an email address, but even the company themselves suggests you use a more real-time option. They have several toll free telephone numbers, along with a Live Chat function that sits in the bottom left corner of every web page. You can also contact the company via social media through Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ (does anyone still use Google+??).
Would I Play at MyBookie.ag?
I think if you can look past their rough past, and see that this site has to offer, then you will enjoy playing at MyBookie.ag. They have an excellent sportsbook, built for recreational players, and offer an adequate casino as well.
It isn't the best casino I have come across, but the one-account system and ease of switching between betting on sports and casino games outweighs the type of offering. Basically, these guys are set up to take North American gamblers, which is getting rarer these days. So, I would say give MyBookie.ag a try and let us know what you think!
